Is your child well enough to go to school? It is not always easy to determine if your child is sick enough to stay home or well enough to go to school. Here are some guidelines to assist in the decision.
Fever: A fever of 100 degrees or more signals an illness that may be contagious or will make the student unable to function in class due to the discomfort or fatigue of the illness. Your child should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Vomiting, Diarrhea or Serve Nausea: These are symptoms that require a student to remain at home until a normal diet is tolerated the night before and the morning of school.
Infectious Diseases: Diseases such as pink eye, strep throat, or impetigo require a doctors examination and prescription for medication. Medication should be taken a minimum of 24 hours and the student should be feeling better before returning to school. If prescription medication is needed at school the consent and signatures of both parent and physician is required on file before medication can be dispersed.
Rashes: Rashes of red or broken skin need to be examined by a doctor if they appear to be spreading or not improving with a three day period.
Injuries: If a student has an injury that causes continuous discomfort, the student should be examined by a physician before returning to school
* Most of all, frequent and good handwashing is the first defense against becoming ill.
